What's included

What a full bathroom remodel includes with us

A bathroom packs plumbing, electrical, tile and finish work into a small room. We plan the whole job up front and carry it through, so you deal with one team from first sketch to final walkthrough.

  • 01

    Plan and layout

We draw up the plan with you, or build from your architect’s or designer’s drawings, and settle where the shower, tub, toilet and vanity go before anything is ordered.

  • 02

    Demolition and framing

Careful demolition, then any framing changes the new layout needs, such as moving a wall, adding a niche or making room for a larger shower.

  • 03

    Plumbing

New supply and drain lines, shower valves and fixtures, planned with the layout so the rough work behind the walls and under the floor is done correctly.

  • 04

    Electrical, lighting and ventilation

Lighting, outlets and ventilation planned for the way the room is used, with new circuits where they are needed.

  • 05

    Insulation and walls

Insulation and wall prep so the tile and finishes go onto a sound, properly prepared surface.

  • 06

    Tile

Floors, shower walls, niches and accents, set by our tile crew in the pattern and size you choose.

  • 07

    Showers and tubs

Walk-in showers with custom tile and glass, freestanding tubs and soaking tubs, chosen to suit the room and how you use it.

  • 08

    Vanities, fixtures and heated floors

Custom or double vanities, mirrors, hardware and fixtures, with heated floors if you want them.

  • 09

Doors, trim, paint, permits and clean-up

Doors and trim, paint, the permits and inspections, and a clean job site when we are done.

Before the walls come down

Layout changes, plumbing, electrical and permits

Most of what makes a bathroom last is behind the walls and under the floor. We plan it first.

  • Layout changes

Moving a toilet, shower or vanity means moving drain and supply lines, and the floor and walls have to be opened to do it. Converting another room, such as a bedroom, into a bathroom involves the same planning plus the framing.

  • Plumbing and electrical

We plan the rough plumbing and electrical together with the layout, and it is inspected before the walls and floors are closed up and tile goes on.

  • Permits

In New Jersey, this kind of work typically needs permits and inspections from your town, and requirements vary by town. We confirm them with your town’s building department and handle the paperwork and inspections as part of the job.

  • What is behind the walls

Older homes can hide outdated plumbing, wiring or water damage. If we find something once the walls are open, we explain it and agree any change with you before doing the work.

Our process

How a bathroom remodel runs, step by step

Here is how a bathroom remodel with us unfolds, so you always know what comes next.

  1. 01

    First conversation

Tell us about your bathroom: what is not working, who uses it, your budget and when you would like to start. We answer your questions and set up a visit.

  2. 02

    Visit and measure

We come to your home, measure, look at the existing plumbing and layout, and talk through options for the shower, tub, vanity and any structural changes.

  3. 03

    Detailed proposal

You receive a written proposal that spells out the scope and selections, so you know what is included before you decide.

  4. 04

    Design and selections

Tile, shower and tub, vanity, fixtures, lighting, hardware and paint. We guide each choice and can go to local showrooms with you.

  5. 05

    Permits and build

We pull the permits, schedule the trades and begin: demolition, framing, plumbing, electrical, insulation, inspections, tile, doors and trim, paint and clean-up, with a written schedule to follow.

  6. 06

    Final walkthrough

We walk the finished bathroom with you, make a list of any final touches and finish them.

Primary suites

Adding a primary suite

A primary suite is a bedroom with its own private bathroom, often with a closet. If your home does not have one, we can create it by reworking the space you have or, if needed, by adding to the house.

  • Where the suite can go

The best spot is usually the bedroom and the space beside it. Where plumbing already runs, and what is on the other side of the wall, shape what is practical.

  • Converting existing space

A bedroom, closet or part of a hallway can become a bathroom. We did exactly that on a Clifton project, and it is often the simplest way to add one without changing the outside of the house.

  • Closet and bedroom flow

A suite works best when the bedroom, closet and bathroom connect sensibly, so we look at all three together, not just the bathroom.

  • When there is not enough room

If the house cannot give up the space, a home addition can create a full primary suite with an ensuite bath and a walk-in closet.

Planning

Planning decisions, in the order to make them

Most bathroom regrets come from deciding things out of order. This sequence keeps choices from undoing each other.

  1. Who uses the bathroom

A kids’ bathroom, a guest bath and a primary suite have different needs. Start with who uses it daily and what slows them down.

  2. Layout

Keep the fixtures where they are, or move them. Moving drains is where scope and schedule grow, so settle this first.

  3. Shower, tub or both

Walk-in shower, freestanding tub or a combination decides the size of the room’s biggest feature and shapes the plumbing plan.

  4. Tile and materials

Tile choice drives the look and the labor. Pick early, since materials and special orders can take time to arrive.

  5. Vanity and storage

Single or double, how much storage, and where the plumbing and lighting sit relative to the mirror.

  6. Lighting, ventilation and extras

Lighting plan, ventilation, heated floors and hardware come together once the major pieces are settled.

Budgeting

What affects the cost of a bathroom remodel

Bathroom costs vary a lot from one house to the next, so we explain what drives them and put numbers in writing after we have seen your space.

  • Size and layout

A larger room, or one that changes shape, involves more tile, floor and labor.

  • Moving fixtures

Relocating a toilet, shower or vanity means new drain and supply lines.

  • Shower and tub choice

A custom-tiled walk-in shower with glass and a niche is a different job than a standard tub surround; a freestanding tub has its own plumbing needs.

  • Tile

Tile size, pattern and material change both the cost of the tile and the labor to set it.

  • Vanity and fixtures

Custom or double vanities, and the fixtures and hardware you choose, vary widely.

  • Extras

Heated floors, upgraded lighting and added storage all add to the scope.

  • What is behind the walls

Older homes can hide outdated plumbing, wiring or water damage that changes the plan once the walls are open.

  • Adding a new bathroom

Converting a bedroom or other space to a new bathroom adds framing, plumbing and electrical to the job.

Omar Construction is everything you could hope for in a general contractor: honest, fair, experienced, very knowledgeable, punctual, and easy to work with. Omar does things the right way, and all the work stayed on schedule. Omar just completed 2 bathrooms at our home in Clifton, NJ and we are thrilled with the results. One bathroom was a renovation, and Omar created a new layout to give us a master suite with our own bathroom. The second bathroom is completely new and converted from a bedroom. Our three college-age children are excited to have a brand-new bathroom, and my wife is very pleased to have her own newly renovated private bath. I have peace of mind because I am confident that all the infrastructure behind the walls and under the floors was done correctly. I am confident that we will enjoy the bathrooms worry-free for many years to come because Omar made sure that everything was done to the highest standards. Omar handled everything: drawing up the initial plan and obtaining the permits, demo, framing, plumbing, electric, insulation, doors and trim, tile, painting, and clean up. From start to finish, Omar was an absolute professional. We love our new bathrooms. The pictures speak for themselves.

I chose Omar Construction as the general contractor for a total renovation of my home. I couldn't have been more pleased with that decision. From the beginning of the project to completion, Omar and his team of highly skilled tradesmen did a fantastic job! Starting with a set of architect's drawings that I had previously commissioned, Omar reviewed them, recommended several improvements, and prepared a detailed proposal. The job included demolition, excavation, expanding the footprint of the original home and rebuilding everything back up from the foundation. Omar was very open and communicative during the entire process so I always knew exactly what was being done, why and how it would be accomplished in the most cost efficient manner. Omar has a list of reliable, expert tradesmen who he has worked with for many years. They all did outstanding work, on schedule and at a reasonable price. He and his team have the experience and specialized skills to accomplish any construction project, large or small. They have built me a home that I plan to live in and enjoy for many years. He has my highest recommendation.

Omar is honest, sincere and kind. He's very helpful and encourages discussion, and he's warm and friendly. The experience was one of a kind. I would choose him again for another project, and I have referred him to about a dozen people since I've used him. Is he perfect? No...but no one is. He is generous and demonstrates true dedication to you as the owner and to the project, and while many issues and problems and concerns can come up during the project, he is attentive and is able to modify things on the turn of a dime. Omar had numerous occasion to cheat me during the project, with subcontractors offering him kickbacks, and he didn't take any of them. He passed all of the savings onto me, and I confirmed these behind-the-scenes improprieties on the part of the subcontractors twice, and I couldn't believe it!! That people I was paying to help me build my house were trying to cheat me, or that they were trying to work in cahoots with Omar!! It was surprising, although maybe I was naive. But Omar is more honest than I even gave him credit for, and for that, I have kept in contact with him even after all these years, helping him gain customers and clients because he's not only my contractor but he's also become my friend.

Bathroom remodeling FAQ

Questions homeowners ask us

What does a full bathroom remodel include?

A full remodel covers the plan and permits, demolition, any framing changes, plumbing, electrical and lighting, insulation, tile, the shower or tub, vanity and fixtures, doors and trim, paint and clean-up. Our in-house team handles the work, so you are not coordinating a string of separate trades yourself.

Can you add a primary suite or a new bathroom to my home?

Yes. On one Clifton project we gave a household a primary suite with its own bathroom by creating a new layout, and we converted a bedroom into a brand-new second bathroom. When there is not enough room inside the house, an addition can create the space; see home additions.

Do I need a permit to remodel a bathroom?

In New Jersey, work such as moving plumbing, adding electrical circuits, changing walls or adding a bathroom typically needs permits and inspections from your town. Requirements differ by town and scope, so we confirm them with your town's building department and take care of the permit paperwork.

Can you replace my tub with a walk-in shower?

Walk-in showers with custom tile are among the bathrooms we build. Whether a tub can come out depends on the layout, the plumbing and the size of the room, so we look at the space with you and talk through the options before you decide.

How long will my bathroom remodel take?

It depends on the size of the bathroom, how much the layout changes, and how long tile, vanities and fixtures take to arrive. We give you a written schedule for your project before work begins, and we tell you early if anything shifts.

What affects the cost of a bathroom remodel?

The main factors are the size of the room, whether fixtures move, the type of shower or tub, the tile you choose, the vanity and fixtures, extras such as heated floors, and what we find behind the walls in an older home. We give you the numbers in writing once we have seen the space.

Can I remodel my kitchen and bathrooms together?

Yes. Planning both rooms together lets us lay out the trades and schedule once. See kitchen and bathroom remodeling for what changes when two rooms are done together.

Do you offer financing?

We have information on financing options for remodeling projects. Terms depend on the lender, so please see our financing page or ask us when we talk about your project.
