What we do

Home improvement and remodeling, under one roof

From a single remodeled room to a total renovation, we plan, permit and build it with our own team.

  • Scope 01

    Whole-home renovations

Top-to-bottom interior rebuilds, gut remodels and multi-room overhauls, coordinated as one project with one schedule and one point of contact.

  • Scope 02

    Layout and open-concept changes

Taking out walls, setting beams and redesigning the floor plan so the house works the way your family lives now.

  • Scope 03

Kitchens and baths in a larger plan

When the kitchen and bathrooms are part of a bigger renovation, we plan them together with the rest of the house. Each also has its own page.

    Kitchen remodeling →
  • Scope 04

    Structural work and expansions

Beam replacements, load-bearing wall removal, foundation work and, when the plan calls for it, expanding the footprint of the home.

    Home additions →
  • Scope 05

Exterior work, as part of your project

New siding, roofing and windows are part of many of our renovations, especially when we add on or rebuild. We take them on as part of a larger project, not as stand-alone repair calls.

  • Scope 06

    Live-in renovations

If your family needs to stay in the house, we can plan the work in phases and talk through what that means for your schedule before we start.

In his review, the homeowner said we were open and communicative throughout, so he always knew what was being done and why.

What's included

What a renovation includes with us

One team carries a project from the first plan to the final clean up. On a Clifton bathroom project, the client's list started with the plan and the permits and ended with the clean up.

  • Plans and permits

We draw up the initial plan, or work from your architect's drawings, and take care of the permits with your town.

  • Demolition and framing

Careful demolition, then new framing and structural changes built to code.

  • Plumbing, electrical and insulation

The systems behind the walls and under the floors, installed correctly and inspected before they are covered.

  • Doors, trim and tile

The detail work that you see and touch every day, done by the team that built what is behind it.

  • Paint and clean up

Finish painting, a full clean up and a final walkthrough with you.

  • Inspections

The town inspects at the required stages, and we handle the scheduling.

Inside the house

Kitchens and baths as part of the plan

Most whole-home renovations include a kitchen or a bathroom, and often both. When we plan them with the rest of the house, the layout, plumbing, electrical and structural work all line up, and one schedule covers everything.

If a kitchen or bathroom is the whole project, each has its own page with the details: kitchen remodeling and bathroom remodeling.

How a renovation works

From first walkthrough to final inspection

A clear sequence on every renovation, so you always know what is happening and what comes next.

  1. 01

Talk through the house and the goals

We walk the house with you and talk about what is not working, what you want and how you live in it.

  2. 02

    Plans and a detailed proposal

We review your architect's drawings, or help you get plans, and we recommend improvements where we see them. You get a detailed proposal before work begins.

  3. 03

    Permits and scheduling

We pull the permits and give you a schedule for your project, including what stays livable and what does not.

  4. 04

    Demolition and structure

Demolition first, then any foundation, framing and beam work the plan calls for.

  5. 05

    Systems and inspections

Plumbing, electrical, insulation and heating and cooling go in, and the town inspects before the walls close.

  6. 06

    Finishes and handover

Tile, doors and trim, paint, a final inspection and a walkthrough with you.

Before you sign

Hiring a licensed New Jersey home improvement contractor

Whoever you hire, these are the things to check. We are happy to answer every one.

  • Check the license

New Jersey requires home improvement contractors to be registered with the state. Ours is NJ #13VH09340700, and you are welcome to look it up.

  • Ask for proof of insurance

Any contractor you hire should be able to send a current insurance certificate quickly. We send ours before the first site visit.

  • Get everything in writing

A real proposal and a written contract spell out the scope of work, the payment schedule and who is responsible for permits.

  • Ask who does the work

Our own in-house team does the work, rather than passing your project to subcontractors you have never met.

  • Read the reviews

We are rated 5.0 on Houzz and have earned Best of Houzz four years running. Read what our clients say.

  • Look at real work

Our portfolio shows projects we have built across North Jersey.

Budget

What affects the cost of a renovation

We do not quote a price per square foot, because it would be wrong for most houses. These are the things that move the number.

  • Scope

    A single-room refresh, a multi-room renovation and a gut-to-foundation rebuild are very different projects.

  • Structure

Moving walls, adding beams or changing the foundation adds engineering, labor and materials.

  • Finish level

Cabinets, tile, countertops, windows and fixtures range from standard to fully custom.

  • The age of the house

Older homes can hide wiring, plumbing or water damage that only shows after demolition. We explain how we handle surprises before we start.

  • Systems

New plumbing, electrical, heating and cooling for the renovated space.

  • Permits and plans

Architectural drawings, engineering and your town's permit requirements.

I chose Omar Construction as the general contractor for a total renovation of my home. I couldn't have been more pleased with that decision. From the beginning of the project to completion, Omar and his team of highly skilled tradesmen did a fantastic job! Starting with a set of architect's drawings that I had previously commissioned, Omar reviewed them, recommended several improvements, and prepared a detailed proposal. The job included demolition, excavation, expanding the footprint of the original home and rebuilding everything back up from the foundation. Omar was very open and communicative during the entire process so I always knew exactly what was being done, why and how it would be accomplished in the most cost efficient manner. Omar has a list of reliable, expert tradesmen who he has worked with for many years. They all did outstanding work, on schedule and at a reasonable price. He and his team have the experience and specialized skills to accomplish any construction project, large or small. They have built me a home that I plan to live in and enjoy for many years. He has my highest recommendation.

Omar Construction is everything you could hope for in a general contractor: honest, fair, experienced, very knowledgeable, punctual, and easy to work with. Omar does things the right way, and all the work stayed on schedule. Omar just completed 2 bathrooms at our home in Clifton, NJ and we are thrilled with the results. One bathroom was a renovation, and Omar created a new layout to give us a master suite with our own bathroom. The second bathroom is completely new and converted from a bedroom. Our three college-age children are excited to have a brand-new bathroom, and my wife is very pleased to have her own newly renovated private bath. I have peace of mind because I am confident that all the infrastructure behind the walls and under the floors was done correctly. I am confident that we will enjoy the bathrooms worry-free for many years to come because Omar made sure that everything was done to the highest standards. Omar handled everything: drawing up the initial plan and obtaining the permits, demo, framing, plumbing, electric, insulation, doors and trim, tile, painting, and clean up. From start to finish, Omar was an absolute professional. We love our new bathrooms. The pictures speak for themselves.

Questions

Home improvement questions, answered

What does a home improvement contractor do?

A home improvement contractor plans, permits and carries out work on an existing home, from a kitchen or bath remodel to a whole-home renovation or an addition. In New Jersey, home improvement contractors are required to be registered with the state. Omar Construction is licensed in New Jersey (NJ #13VH09340700).

What is the difference between home improvement and remodeling?

Home improvement is the broad term for any work that improves an existing home. Remodeling usually means changing the layout, finishes or structure of the living space itself. We do both, from a single remodeled room to a total renovation.

Do you do siding, roofing or window replacement by itself?

We do exterior work such as siding, roofing and windows as part of larger projects, such as additions, rebuilds and whole-home renovations. We do not take stand-alone repair jobs.

Do you handle permits?

Yes. We take care of the permit process with your town's construction office and schedule the required inspections.

Can I live in the house during a renovation?

Sometimes. It depends on how much of the house the work touches. A kitchen or bath remodel often leaves the rest of the house usable, while a total renovation may not. We talk through it with you and plan around your family before we start.

How much does a home renovation cost?

It depends on the scope, structural changes, finish level, the age of the house and your town's requirements. We give you a detailed written proposal after we have seen your house and plans, rather than a general number that may not fit your project.

Do you work from an architect's plans?

Yes. A client in Nutley came to us with plans from his architect, and we reviewed them, recommended improvements and prepared a detailed proposal. If you do not have plans yet, tell us and we will talk through the options.

Which areas do you serve?

We build and remodel across Bergen, Passaic, Morris, Essex, Hudson and Sussex Counties, and we are based in Clifton, NJ.
