Ridgewood became a village in 1894, and the first house here went up around 1700. About 26,000 people live here now, in roughly 8,800 homes. The Heights neighborhood was developed between the 1890s and 1930, and several Ridgewood houses are on the National Register of Historic Places.
The village also has its own train station, served by NJ Transit’s Main Line and Bergen County Line.
For a builder, that history changes the questions. Before we draw an addition or a new exterior, we want to know how old the house is and whether the village treats it as historic.
