A township of parks, ridges and Route 23
Cedar Grove covers about 4.4 square miles and counted 4,661 homes in the 2010 Census. It was named for the Eastern red cedars that once covered its valley and hillsides, and it took its present name in 1908 after splitting from Verona. It borders Montclair, Verona and North Caldwell in Essex County, and Little Falls across the county line in Passaic County.
Route 23 runs through the township and holds most of its commercial zone. The township also has neighborhoods such as Park Ridge Estates in the North End, and two county parks with trails, Mills Reservation and Hilltop Reservation.

We plan the order of work so the plumber, the electrician and the framing crew do not trip over each other, and so the finished result looks like one house instead of a series of patches. Permits and approvals in Cedar Grove
The Building Department says permits are needed for almost any work on your property, and it starts you with a Building Department Permit Application Packet, with other forms for zoning, tree removal, storage containers and dumpsters. It does not accept cash for any permit.
Inspections in Cedar Grove are by appointment only: the township schedules building, fire, plumbing and electrical inspections on different days. Zoning is handled through the Planning/Zoning Department. The Zoning Board of Adjustment meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:30 PM, and the Planning Board on the first and third Tuesdays at 7:00 PM.

Omar is honest, sincere and kind. He's very helpful and encourages discussion, and he's warm and friendly. The experience was one of a kind. I would choose him again for another project, and I have referred him to about a dozen people since I've used him. Is he perfect? No...but no one is. He is generous and demonstrates true dedication to you as the owner and to the project, and while many issues and problems and concerns can come up during the project, he is attentive and is able to modify things on the turn of a dime. Omar had numerous occasion to cheat me during the project, with subcontractors offering him kickbacks, and he didn't take any of them. He passed all of the savings onto me, and I confirmed these behind-the-scenes improprieties on the part of the subcontractors twice, and I couldn't believe it!! That people I was paying to help me build my house were trying to cheat me, or that they were trying to work in cahoots with Omar!! It was surprising, although maybe I was naive. But Omar is more honest than I even gave him credit for, and for that, I have kept in contact with him even after all these years, helping him gain customers and clients because he's not only my contractor but he's also become my friend.
